Rich Alfano
Rich is currently General Manager for the Sports & Entertainment, Health & Education, Luxury & Travel segments of The Dallas Morning News, as well as Publisher of FD Luxe magazine. As General Manager, Rich is responsible for driving the overall growth of the segments, by delivering and launching next generation print, online and mobile app media products targeted to special interest vertical audiences and selling multimedia solutions to advertisers interested in reaching these consumers.
As General Manager, Rich is responsible for creating significant collaboration across the organization by managing a diverse and talented group of sales, editorial, marketing and digital staffs to drive innovation and achieve the segments long term strategic goals. Recent successes include the Super Bowl, Mavs and Rangers playoff run, SportsDayHS Real-Time Scoring and mobile app, FD Luxe ipad/iphone app and the relaunch of FD Luxe magazine.
Prior to joining The Dallas Morning News in December 2009, Rich spent over 25 years in leadership roles for major media and publishing companies including Times Mirror/Time Warner, Thomson Reuters and CBS. Rich repositioned Yachting Magazine and built an industry leading multimedia platform as President of Golf Magazine. He began his career in at CBS Inc., where he obtained expertise to TV, Radio, Music and Publishing.
Between 2002 and 2007, Rich held several leadership positions at Thomson Reuters in Fort Worth and New York. As SVP/General Manager, he grew revenue by 55%, from $60-$93 Million, profits by 94% from $18-$35 Million and profit margins to 37% in just three years, while completing four acquisitions totaling $40 Million. During this period, the financial services publishing business was repositioned for growth and migrated from a print to an electronic platform. Rich then became SVP, Strategic Marketing where he drove segment strategies across a diverse product line, launched branding initiatives and managed the overall marketing operations for a $250 Million business.
Since moving to Texas in 2003, Rich has also been a Board Member in the Promotional Products’ Industry and a Strategic Consultant for D Magazine’s People Newspapers.
Rich is a graduate from Pace University in New York, where he received an MBA in Corporate Financial Management and where he became a CPA early in his career.
Rich and his wife, Kathy, along with two sons in college (SMU, UTD) live in Southlake, Texas.
